The Therapeutic Role of CELA2A in Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Pancreatitis
We are developing a first-in-class recombinant human CELA2A analog that restores pancreatic function by targeting inflammation and improving β-cell survival. Unlike conventional diabetes therapies, this engineered non-proteolytic biologic modulates PAR2 signaling in a cell-specific manner—suppressing inflammatory macrophage activity while enhancing insulin secretion in β-cells. This dual mechanism preserves islet integrity and improves glucose regulation, addressing a root cause of diabetes progression. Because CELA2A also reduces pancreatic inflammation, this therapeutic has potential to treat chronic pancreatitis, where inflammatory injury contributes to endocrine dysfunction. Our platform offers a novel disease-modifying strategy for both diabetes and chronic pancreatic disease.
