Alva Health
Alva Health is developing a wearable stroke monitoring platform that offers detection of hemiparesis, a hallmark of stroke onset, consisting of two wristbands containing sensors, a smartphone app, and cloud-based monitoring with proprietary algorithms. Upon stroke onset, the user is connected to a 24/7 call center that facilitates 911 calls and initiates medical response. Currently, 90 percent of stroke victims do not receive life-saving tPA therapy due to delays in detecting stroke and seeking emergency medical care, because stroke onset can be subtle and patients are typically not professionally trained to recognize the symptoms. As a result, only 10% of stroke patients arrive in the hospital within the critical 4.5 hour time window required for tPA treatment, resulting in long-term disability or untimely death. Alva Health's wearable device provides seamless, continuous, 24/7 monitoring of symptoms for up to 90 days, and the solution requires no medical training to operate. Our solution will provide early detection of stroke at home and automate the initiation of emergency response via 911, resulting in timely emergency medical care and improved patient outcomes.
