Blavatnik Fund Annual Report FY 26

Blavatnik Fund FY ’26

Accelerating the translation of early-stage life science research into impactful products.

The Blavatnik Fund is built for the hardest part of the journey: moving a discovery from the lab bench toward the clinic. We pair targeted, early-stage funding with hands-on guidance to help researchers clear the translational hurdles that stop good science from reaching patients.” —Morag Grassie, Executive Director of the Blavatnik Fund for Innovation at Yale

The Blavatnik Fund for Innovation at Yale: Year in Review

The Blavatnik Fund for Innovation at Yale continues to accelerate the translation of Yale discoveries into therapies, diagnostics, and technologies with the potential to improve human health. In FY26, the fund awarded approximately $4.1M across 21 projects supporting a growing portfolio of innovations spanning therapeutics, artificial intelligence, medical technologies, and platform innovations. As Yale's translational research ecosystem continues to mature, the Blavatnik Fund for Innovation at Yale remains a critical catalyst for advancing breakthrough science from the laboratory toward commercialization and patient impact.

A defining theme of FY ’26 was the emergence of women's health as a strategic area of strength. Building on years of investment across the Yale research community, this year's portfolio included a significant number of projects addressing unmet needs in women's health, highlighting Yale's growing leadership in a field attracting increasing scientific, clinical, and investment attention. This reflects not only the strength of the current funding cycle, but a broader commitment to advancing research that has historically been underrepresented in biomedical innovation.

FY ’26 also marked another important milestone as additional Blavatnik-supported technologies advanced into clinical development. Progress from companies including RigImmune and Biohaven demonstrates how early translational funding can help move promising discoveries from academic research into human clinical studies. These achievements underscore the long-term impact of strategic investment at the earliest stages of innovation, where validation and de-risking are essential to reaching patients.

Beyond individual project awards, the Blavatnik Fund continued to strengthen the broader commercialization ecosystem surrounding Yale biotech innovation. Through initiatives including reverse pitch programs, non-dilutive funding opportunities, and connections to investors, the program is helping investigators navigate the critical funding gap between academic discovery and venture financing. This year also marked the launch of Mission BioCapital's dedicated Connecticut investment initiative, reflecting growing national confidence in the strength of the region's innovation pipeline and the quality of companies emerging from Yale.

As the life sciences investment landscape continues to demand greater technical validation before institutional capital enters, programs like the Blavatnik Fund play an increasingly important role. By combining catalytic funding with commercialization expertise, industry partnerships, and strategic mentorship, the fund continues to build a stronger pipeline of venture-ready technologies while advancing Yale's mission to translate world-class research into real-world impact.

Yale Innovation Summit: Biotech Track

The Biotech Track at the 2026 Yale Innovation Summit brought together founders, investors, researchers, clinicians, and industry leaders to explore how biotechnology is evolving in a changing investment landscape. Through discussions on life science investing, women’s health, patient-driven innovation, gene and cell therapies, and strategies for accelerating the path from discovery to commercialization, the track highlighted both the challenges and opportunities shaping the sector. Showcasing breakthrough research, emerging ventures, and new models for funding and collaboration, the Biotech Track reflected Yale Ventures’ commitment to translating scientific discovery into real-world impact while strengthening the innovation ecosystem across academia, industry, and investment.
