As a Lecturer in the Molecular Biology Department at Princeton University, I teach a research course that is an extension of my postdoctoral research at the Yale Stem Cell Center. In the lab, students perform first-hand research to understand the role of the Drosophila Piwi protein in the survival of stem cells. In addition to supporting students’ growth as scientists, I support their growth as leaders by incorporating elements of Toastmasters. The goal of teaching leadership and teamwork skills is so that students can develop as agents of their own learning and identify themselves as leaders.
