What we should feed people who are recovering from cachexia, including from critical illness, is unknown. We discovered a previously unknown interoceptive gut-brain pathway that is tuned to direct optimal diets during recovery. This foundational biological insight simultaneously revealed the critical elements for a potentially optimal recovery diet.
