Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells for Next Generation Endothelialized Grafts
Atherosclerosis is the build-up of plaque, narrowing vessels. It can happen in the heart, with 200 thousand bypass procedures per year in the U.S., as well as in the leg, with 60 thousand procedures each year in the U.S., generating a 4-billion-dollar opportunity. This is a unique opportunity to use nature’s way to create universal, endothelialized grafts as a ground-breaking treatment for atherosclerosis. Our rodent studies indicate that our grafts can be remodeled into a vessel that is indistinguishable from its host counterpart. We are excited about this technology and looking forward to its preclinical large animal studies.
