Novel Peptides for the Treatment of Peripheral Arterial Disease

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a highly prevalent and costly disease and may lead to leg amputation. There is no effective medical therapy for PAD. We have identified a new gene that is involved in angiogenesis and blood flow recovery post-ischemia in murine models. This led to the discovery of a family of peptides that promotes pro-angiogenic signaling and enhances angiogenesis in murine models. We seek to evaluate these peptides in a murine model of hindlimb ischemia and select the most promising agent for lead optimization and pre-clinical toxicology and PK studies. This should lead to a novel medical therapy and address a major need in PAD management.
