Optical sensing solution for an accessible, non-invasive continuous blood glucose monitor (NIGM)
We propose leveraging compact, high-etendue SWIR light sources and detectors to develop a wearable, non-invasive continuous blood glucose monitor (NIGM) – an innovative approach to digital biomarking that remains unexplored.
This technology has the potential to revolutionize "health intelligence" in electronic wearables and smart accessories, extending capabilities beyond traditional biometrics like heart rate, stress, and oxygen levels.
Funding will support:
Prototype development and de-risking critical engineering challenges (e.g., advancing 1800–2200nm technology as the second glucose "sweet spot").
Designing essential electronics and circuitry (drivers, amplifiers, and filters).
Procuring commercial components such as PCB boards and photodiode detectors.
Identifying optimal sensing modalities.
Our vision is to redefine wearable health tech by enabling continuous, non-invasive glucose monitoring.
