Yale Innovators Recognized on Forbes 30 Under 30 Healthcare List

Three Yale healthcare innovators, including two student entrepreneurs, were recognized for their impactful healthcare contributions on Forbes 30 Under 30 Healthcare, North America for 2024. Student entrepreneurs Kingson Lin and Cole Lewis were featured alongside Shirley Wang, an incoming assistant professor at Yale. 

Both Yale students are co-founders of Yale spinouts, companies formed based on academic research from Yale laboratories. 

Kingson Lin is a student in the Yale School of Medicine’s MD-PHD program. In 2021 he cofounded Modifi Bio with Ranjit Bindra, MD, Ph.D., Seth Herzon, Ph.D., and Kevin Rakin. ModifiBio is a preclinical stage biotechnology company creating a new class of molecules, designed to be delivered orally, that aim to selectively kill cancer cells via direct cancer DNA modification. 

Cole Lewis, a Ph.D. Candidate in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, cofounded Cloverleaf Bio in 2023 alongside Austin Draycott, Ph.D. and Wendy Gilbert, Ph.D., Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. Cloverleaf Bio pursues the co-founders groundbreaking research in cancer and neurodegenerative disorder treatment through the development of a new class of engineered RNA therapeutics (tRNAs). 

Additionally, Shirley Wang, PhD was recognized for her exceptional research and dedicated efforts in the healthcare sector. Wang will begin work as an assistant professor at Yale University in 2024. She was recognized for her work using mathematical modeling and machine learning to understand why and for whom mental disorders develop, with a focus on preventing suicide.
