Makoto is the Director of the Colton Center for Autoimmunity at Yale. The Colton Center is one of four international Colton Centers that focus on advancing translational research in autoimmune and allergic diseases. Makoto previously served as VP of Research and Collaborations at ConverGene, a startup that discovered and developed epigenetic drugs for cancer, inflammatory diseases, and fibrosis. Prior to ConverGene, Makoto was the Technology Manager at TechCatalyst, a business unit of the American Chemical Society and also held various technical positions at Gene Logic and CuraGen, two companies in the field of genomics. Makoto earned his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Vermont.
