Next Generation Matrix for Bone Repair
Bone fractures occur in healthy and diseased individuals and display variable healing outcomes. In general, aged individuals and especially women with osteoporosis, experience reduced healing. To address this problem, we will develop ECM material from gene-edited, thrombospondin 2- deficient swine. Specifically, SarxionBH, a bone-derived ECM hydrogel to treat bone fractures. We propose to optimize and scale the production of SarxionBH. Pilot lots will be subjected to extensive characterization and testing. We aim to collect critical information needed by CROs to prepare GLP-grade hydrogels for testing in a large animal model, which will be our 6-month milestone.
